LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 11, 2018) — The 2017-2018 academic year is coming to a close for PRSSA-LB. In a time frame of less than nine months, the chapter saw to six guest speakers and three career tours, doubled its membership, appeared at two major conferences and produced a team of five students who are now finalists in the PRSSA National Bateman Competition.
PRSSA-LB met its goal of providing 2017-2018 members with ample networking opportunities. Meetings featured guest speakers from organizations that include Sitrick & Company, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and the Los Angeles Lakers. Members also had the opportunity to explore the PR department of Taco Bell managed by Matt Prince (PRWeek Top 40 Under 40 professional), as well as The Brand Amp and Golin, two of the world’s leading public relations agencies. Membership by the end of the Spring 2018 semester totaled 61 students, a 103 percent increase from the previous spring. Concurrently, PRSSA-LB met its goal of attending the PRSSA Regional Conference in Fullerton, California, the PRSSA National Conference in Boston and PRSSA National Assembly in Miami. Toward the end of the Spring 2018 semester, PRSSA notified the chapter that its Bateman team was one of the top three participants in the national competition. The team, led by Bianca Granado, will present its case study to a panel of judges in Charleston, South Carolina on May 14-15. “During my time serving this chapter, I’ve seen a remarkable growth in membership, activity and awareness,” said outgoing Chapter President Jazmin Lucero. “The leadership from this year’s team has far exceeded my expectations and I am so proud of our accomplishments.” The formal start of the newly elected Executive Board’s term will conclude the 2017-2018 academic year. “I look forward to what the new Board and I can contribute to PRSSA-LB and I am confident we will continue to see the success of this chapter,” said incoming Chapter President Ines Torres de Jesus. About PRSSA-LB PRSSA-LB is a chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) located at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). The organization prepares students for their careers by providing opportunities for networking and professional development. Members of PRSSA-LB have access to guest speaker events, various career tours and exclusive newsletter content. The chapter was founded in 1972 by PR professional and CSULB professor Frank Winston Wylie and continues to thrive as a premier network of future PR professionals.
