Go All In” with PRSSA-LB at GolinReflecting on the Lessons Learned from Golin

PRSSA-LB members had the opportunity to tour Golin, a progressive public relations agency with an office located in downtown Los Angeles, on Friday, September 20. 
The tour kicked-off with a visit to various divisions like the multimedia room where members viewed displays that featured news outlets, talk shows and other applications that monitored online activity. Our host Jennifer Baker-Asiddao, the executive director at Golin, pointed out that keeping up to date with current events is necessary in not only in public relations, but in all fields.
The group was then led through Golin’s workspaces where teams managed accounts for clients such as Nintendo, LUNA Bar and McDonald’s. The office included unique seating areas from booths to open work spaces that helped employees produce content comfortably and efficiently.

PRSSA members were then seated in the conference room that had a magnificent view of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign. In the conference room, our members had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics with Baker-Asiddao and other employees at Golin. like the necessary skills in public relations, internships and landing a job after graduation.

Many of Golin’s associates like Jessica Mitchell, joined our members in the meeting. Mitchell offered advice and gave tips on how to get your dream job. When sharing her own experience, Mitchell said that she was determined to set herself apart from other candidates. 

“If the front door is locked, I’m going in through the kitchen window,” said Mitchell. “Either way, I’m getting in.”

The biggest takeaway from Mitchell’s tips was the importance of doing research on the jobs you apply for and the companies itself. She made it clear to put your best foot forward when applying for jobs. She advised members to connect with potential employers on LinkedIn to show your interest in the job and send them a copy of your resume. 

Above all, Golin offered our members valuable tips to keep in mind like:
1. Be certain that the job aligns with what interests you 
2. Make sure that the job will help you achieve your personal and professional goals
3. Make a good first impression 
4. Stand out from the competition
