2021 BATEMAN TEAM
2021 Bateman Team are National Champions!
In 2021, California State University, Long Beach’s Bateman team took first place out of 54 universities across the country! Teams were challenged to develop a strategic PR campaign that focuses on reversing the corrosion of civility in American life and fostering more constructive and inclusive public discourse in all corners of society.
Teams were judged on their research, planning, implementation and evaluation. The top three finalists included University of Nebraska–Lincoln in second place followed by Loyola University New Orleans in third place.
CSULB’s winning campaign, “Civility LB” focused on one overarching objective: empowering people to be agents of changes, and inform the public about the. impact of incivility in public discourse. With the COVID-19 restrictions in place, CSULB were able to gather and engage with the public through a robust fully online campaign. Their campaign message "From Another Point of View" was branded and shown upside down to actively demonstrate being able to see each other from another perspective regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability. CSULB-CivilityLB garnered a total of seven media placements which led to over 3.7 million media impressions. At the end of the campaign 308 individuals pledged civility as well as 11 organizations!
